Services: Birth Doula
A bit about me: I first heard of the term doula when I was asked by a friend to be a birth partner alongside her husband in 2009. One of her midwives asked if I was a doula and at the time I didn’t have a clue what that meant. The birth was an amazing experience for me and for some time I thought perhaps my future lay in midwifery.
As time went on something just didn’t sit right with my desire to become a midwife. I wanted the opportunity to be with a mum throughout her labour and not be dictated by shifts starting and ending.
After spending some time volunteering on the postnatal ward at the local maternity hospital I was drawn more and more to becoming a doula.
Eventually I decided there’s only so much research you can do, if I really want to do this I have to make it happen….so I did!
Doulas definitely come in all shapes and sizes and that’s part of what draws me to my work. I believe there’s a doula out there for everybody and it’s about finding someone who is the right fit for you.
So, what am I really like? The best way to find out is to have a chat with me either by email, phone or face to face. The added bonus of face to face means it generally involves me bringing cake and that can’t be a bad thing, right?!
