A bit about me: I’m Rosa from Labour of Love….supporting you through pregnancy, birth and beyond! I have been running my classes and working as a Doula for 10 years and I love supporting families during the life changing transition of their childbirth year. I have held a lifelong interest in birth and babies and always knew I wanted to work within the realms of pregnancy and birth.
Giving birth is a major rite of passage, an experience you will always remember. My aim is to help you have a positive experience of pregnancy and birth and ease your journey into parenthood; to help women and their partners feel empowered and approach birth and parenting with confidence and the trust that you know what is right for you and your family.
As your postnatal doula I will look after you and your family so that you can look after your baby. Traditionally women would have had a lying in period after the birth of their baby but now women are increasingly rushed back into their day to day activities. I will encourage you to rest and recover your energy after your birth and enjoy getting to know your baby. As well as being a time of celebration, it is easy to feel overwhelmed when you have a new baby. Your responsibilities and priorities will have changed and your life will have taken a new direction and this takes some getting used to. My role will vary according to each family’s needs but can include a mix of emotional and practical support such as:
– Breastfeeding support
– Reflecting on your birth experience
– Looking after baby in your home while you have a nap or bath
– Supporting your parenting choices
– Talking through issues or concerns and helping you meet your baby’s needs
– Preparing snacks / light meals (vegetarian)
– Light housework
– Shopping
– Looking after older children
– Rebozo and Reiki treatments
My favourite part of this work is being a birth Doula and attending births, however due to my situation of being a lone parent to my 14 year old daughter I’m not able to take on as many births as I’d like. I can offer shared care as a birth Doula and I have more availability during school holidays. I will always do what I can to help though so please get in touch if you’d like me to support you! I regularly attend workshops and courses to update and learn new skills. Later this year I’m training in Mizan Therapy (abdominal massage) and full Myofascial Release Practitioner certificate.
